The United States Congress forms the basis under which the government of United States functions. US Congress is bicameral in nature and is an important constituent in that of the US politics. The United States has a simple yet organized political system for a long time now and has been following only that so far. The political system of the US is based on the constitution, legislature and that of the judiciary as well. All the three branches of power are both independent and at the same time interdependent as well. United States has the President as the head of the State and the head of government as well.
The constitution of the United States provides that the United States Congress is provided with all the legislative powers and that it consist of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is to be understood that both the Senate and House of Representatives enjoy equal status in the legislature as per the constitution. US Congress, thus, forms the very basis for the entire political system of the United States. Meeting of the Congress takes place in the United States Capitol, Washington D.C. Senators and representatives of the state are chosen by the people through the electoral system.
US Congress enjoys a set of power that is defined in the constitution and also the Supreme Court through a lot of efforts. These limitations are set by based on custom and history of America. US Congress is the prime legislative body of US. The powers of the Congress are also distinguished into two different areas. One is that of the enumerated powers and the other is that of the implied powers. Enumerated powers are those powers that are listed or explicitly provided in the constitution whereas the implied powers are different. The implied power constitutes those powers that are a not provided in the constitution but implies to be carried on by the United States Congress. The implied powers of the Congress are known to be derived from that of Necessary and Proper Clauses provided in the Constitutions. Definition for the implied power is given as per the rulings passed in a case law.
Section 8 of the United States Constitution provides for a list of enumerated powers. It includes a list of important functions and features that needs to be carried out by the United States Congress to regularize the functions of the States. US Congress is, thus, an essential part of the United States and is known to be one of the most essential criteria in the politics of United States. It has also got some of the most essential powers like impeachment of Federal Judges, President, and other federal officers. Committees provides for a congressional supervision as well. Thus, the Congress forms an integral part of the United States and takes part in crucial areas like defense and national protection as well. US Congress cannot be dissociated from United States politics and United States in any way as it has a wider influence than any other power.
